Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry represents the cutting edge of modern dentistry. Transformation of the smile transforms the face the neck and the body, enhancing self-confidence and everybody part as a result. The smile is the invitation of the soul to respond by verbal and non-verbal expression. It is the gift of the child enchanted - expressing their inner joy and love to those who receive us by smiling back. Inhibition is demonstrated in how our mouth responds to stimuli from our encounters with others; demonstration of this psychological inhibition may hold us back in our professional and personal lives.

Hollywood is imbued by the proliferation of stars that have changed the way the American public views the smile. It is no longer considered acceptable to have dark uneven teeth in the media world. The anatomical arrangement of teeth influences the structure of the face and even the posture of the body, and bright white teeth are suggestive of youth and beauty.

Cosmetic dentistry begins with the removal of unsightly metal fillings to the total reconstruction of the smile. The whitening of teeth and the removal of stains can naturally enhance the smile. This can be further enhanced by the use of tooth colored restorations, either utilizing composites or porcelain material to achieve a white color that is appropriate for the client. Tooth bonding can be used to esthetically camouflage a tooth that has darkened by injury, or to correct chips and incisal edges to a more pleasing visual line.

Porcelain veneers or laminates transform the smile from shape, size, color, closure and bite. This is the optimal restorative material used for the Hollywood smile. The porcelain veneer restoration is an invitation to smile and delight others and oneself from the confidence and beauty it gives. Veneers can be used in combinations with crowns, bridges and tooth whitening systems.

CERAC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic)

The CERAC is a CAD/CAM system or computer assisted design and computer assisted milling. This type of system is used in industrial design in the making and design of precision parts and tools in all industries including the automotive. The CERAC has been around since the 1980's, however, the latest high-tech generation, the CERAC III, was just released in 2000.

This is the future of exact precise dentistry without the use of the lab technician and laboratory, where unfortunately resolution of the original tooth preparation is diminished by 2-3 orders of magnitude. There are no messy alginate impressions to take and send, as the impression is taken digitally with a camera. The camera sends the image to the computer and gives an X, Y and Z understanding of the tooth, so that it can be seen in three-dimensional space. The tooth is then prepared, designed and milled in-office, by exact computer milling, while the client waits in-office without needing a second appointment.

Beautiful, natural, realistic biocompatible crowns, partial crowns, inlay and onlay fillings, can all be done within one short visit. The CERAC ceramics fit and wear like natural teeth and will last decades. This is truly a winning modern system especially good and appropriate for deep fillings in danger of root canal therapy. The CERAC material is non-antagonizing and non-irritating to the pulp floor, minimizing the chances for root canal therapy.
